The starting point of this research is related to \textit{S. Parrot}'s classical example of three commuting contractions having no isometric dilation see [Pac. J. Math. 34, 481--490 (1970; Zbl 0202.41802)]. The authors prove that there exist three commuting, unital, completely positive maps which have no dilation on a type I factor, and no minimal dilation on any von Neumann algebra. In fact, the authors show that the dilation theory for what they call completely positive semigroups has some subtleties which do not occur in the dilation theory of operators.
