Given a symmetric convex body C in an Euclidean space, and n hyperplanes, there is a homothetic copy of C, inside C, at least \((1/n+1)\) times as large, whose interior does not meet any of the hyperplanes. The result solves the affine plank problem of Bang, for symmetric bodies, and has applications to Diophantine approximations.
