This long paper aims to develop a geometric formulation of string theory on noncommutative space-times. After the Introduction, it splits in eight chapters and two appendices. 1. D-Branes and Ramond-Ramond charges. 2. Poincaré duality. 3. KK-Equivalence. 4. Cyclic theory. 5. Duality in bivariant cyclic cohomology. 6. T-Duality. 7. Todd classes and Gysin maps. 8. Noncommutative D-branes charges. Appendix A - The Kasparov product. Appendix B - A diagram calculus for the Kasparov product. Authors give an axiomatic formulation of \(T\)-duality and establish a very general formula for D-brane charges. This formula is closely related to a noncommutative Groethendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem. Technical tools employed are calculations with iterated products in bivariant K-theory and cyclic theory. The authors claim that recently was suggested by I. M. Singer to work out string theory and duality on space-times that are general noncommutative \(C^*\)-algebras, with some minimal assumptions. They consider this paper as a preliminary step towards this goal. Reviewer's remark. With respect to the Singer's suggestion, may be useful to say that quantized strings (and their dual ones) on noncommutative space-times can be considerd as \(p\)-(co)chains in \textit{quantum (super)manifolds} in the sense considered by the reviewer of this paper. He has also developed, for such geometric objects, and in the category \({\mathfrak Q}_S\) of \textit{quantum (super)manifolds}, a geometric dynamic theory.. Then quantum strings can be seen as solutions of quantum (super) PDE's, i.e., PDE's in the category \({\mathfrak Q}_S\).
