Let \(p\) be an odd prime; let \(\tau_s\) and \(\xi_i\) be the Milnor elements of degree \(2p^s-1\) and \(2p^i-2\) respectively in the dual \(A(p)^*\) of the Steenrod algebra \(A(p)\). The Milnor basis for \(A(p)^*\) is made up of the monomials \(\tau_S\xi^R=\tau_{s_1}\cdots\tau_{s_t}\xi_1^{r_1}\cdots\xi_m^{r_m}\) with \(S=(s_1,\ldots,s_t)\), \(R=(r_1,\ldots,r_m)\) and \(0\leq s_1<\ldots<s_t\). Let us denote by \(St^{S,R}\in A(p)\) the dual of \(\tau_S\xi^R\) with respect to this basis for \(A(p)^*\). Thus the elements \(St^{S,R}\) form a basis for \(A(p)\). In this paper the author explicitly computes the action of each \(St^{S,R}\) on Mùi invariants \([k;e_{k+1},\ldots,e_n]\) and proves the following relation between Mùi and Dickson invariants: \[ [k;e_{k+1},\ldots,e_n]= \sum_{s=0}^{n-1}(-1)^{n-s+1}[k;e_{n+1},\ldots,e_n+s]Q_{n,s}^{p^{e_n}} \] for \(0\leq k<n\).
