The main result of the paper under review concerns a popular question in Banach space theory: whether a given Banach space has the approximation property. This time the authors consider noncommutative \(L_p\)-spaces associated with group von Neumann algebras. The main result asserts that if \(G\) is a discrete group with the approximation property, then \(L_p(VN(G))\) has the operator space approximation property (introduced by Effros and Ruan as an operator space equivalent of Grothendieck's approximation property for Banach spaces). The last section of the paper contains an interesting (operator space) generalization of the classical notion of Schauder basis (in Banach spaces). In particular, it is shown that each \(L_p\)-space from the class under consideration has a completely bounded Schauder basis.
