The author studies the Gauss-Manin system, i.e. the system of ordinary differential equations satisfied by the abelian integral associated to the cycle \(\gamma _s\subset \{ (x,y)\in {\mathbb R}^2| H(x,y;s)=0\}\) defined for the versal deformation of a simple isolated hypersurface singularity. As an application he gives an estimate on the multiplicities of the zeros of the integral \(I_{\omega}(s)=\int _{\gamma _s}\omega\) depending on the quasihomogeneous weights of the variables \(x\), \(y\) (defined by \(H(x,y;0)\)) and on deg\((\omega )\). Such an estimate can be used in the solution of Hilbert's 16th problem.
