In this paper, the authors continue their study [\textit{J. Rognes} et al., Math. Ann. 363, No. 3--4, 1349--1398 (2015; Zbl 1329.14039)] of Rognes's logarithmic topological Hochschild homology of logarithmically structured ring spectra [\textit{J. Rognes}, Geom. Topol. Monogr. 16, 401--544 (2009; Zbl 1227.14024)]. This theory describes the ingredients of localization sequences that cannot be expressed purely within the realm of ordinary topological Hochschild homology. As an application, the authors recover Ausoni's computation [\textit{C. Ausoni}, Am. J. Math. 127, No. 6, 1261--1313 (2005; Zbl 1107.55006)] of the \(V(1)\)-homotopy of the ordinary topological Hochschild homology of connective complex \(K\)-theory, realizing an approach also outlined in [loc. cit.]. In the meantime, \textit{E. Höning} [``On the Brun spectral sequence for topological Hochschild homology'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1808.04586}] has presented an alternative, short computation using her generalization of the Brun spectral sequence.
