    Let \(B(a)\) denote the Bessel integral operator in \(L^2 (\mathbb{R}_+)\) with the kernel \[ K(x,y)=\int_0^\infty t\sqrt{xy}I_\nu (xt)I_\nu (yt) a(t)dt \] where \(I_\nu\) stands for the Bessel function with \(\nu>-1\) and \(a\in L^\infty (\mathbb{R}_+)\cap L^1 (\mathbb{R}_+)\). Let \(B_\tau (a)\) be the truncated operator on \(L_2 (0,\tau)\). The main result is as follows. Theorem. Let \(\nu>-1\) and suppose the function \(b\in L^\infty (\mathbb{R}_+)\cap L^1 (\mathbb{R}_+)\) satisfies the following conditions: (i)\ \(b\) is continuous and piecewise \(C^2\) on \([0,\infty)\), and \(\lim_{t\to\infty} b(t)=0;\) (ii)\(\;\frac{b^\prime (t)}{\sqrt{1+t}}\in L^1 (\mathbb{R}_+), b''(t)\in L^1 (\mathbb{R}_+).\) Denote by \(\widehat{b}\) the cosine transform of \(b\) and put \(a=e^b-1.\) Then as \(\tau\to\infty,\) \[ \det(I+B_\tau (a))\sim \exp\left(\tau \widehat{b} (0)- \frac{\nu}{2}b(0)+\frac 12 \int_0^\infty x(\widehat{b} (x))^2 dx\right). \]
