The positive mass theorem for manifolds with an inner boundary established by \textit{M. Herzlich} [Commun. Math. Phys. 188, No. 1, 121--133 (1997; Zbl 0886.53032)], is examined in the limit case when at a point of the boundary the smallest positive eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on the boundary is strictly larger than one half of the mean curvature. Contents include: an introduction (which contains a detailed overview of positive mass theorems); the Witten-Herzlich method; conformal change of metric using the length of a spinor without zeros as the conformal factor; and references.
