The authors present a \(q\)-hypergeometric series proof of a polynomial analogue of Jacobi's triple product identity. As the authors showed earlier [Symbolic computation, number theory, special functions, physics and combinatorics (Dev.\ Math.\ 4, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht) (2001; Zbl 1040.11071)], this identity can be derived from Göllnitz's big partition theorem, and has also been proven algorithmically by \textit{A.~Berkovich} and \textit{A.~Riese} [Adv.\ Appl.\ Math.\ 28, 1--16 (2001; Zbl 1021.11027)]. Furthermore, a two-parameter extension of Jacobi's identity as well as polynomial analogues of Lebesgue's identity are derived.
