The authors present a direct calculation of the functional determinant of the Laplace operator for a ball in flat space. They impose Dirichlet, Robin, and Neumann boundary conditions and give explicit results for dimensions \(m\) with \(2\leq m\leq 6\). They use the massive Laplacian and take the limit \(m\to 0\); their result agrees with a calculation of \textit{J. S. Dowker} and \textit{J. S. Apps} [Classical Quantum Gravity 12, No. 6, 1363-1383 (1995; Zbl 0828.58036)].
