In 2008, \textit{B. List} [Commun. Anal. Geom. 16, No. 5, 1007--1048 (2008; Zbl 1166.53044)] introduced an extended Ricci flow equation whose stationary points correspond to static solutions to the vacuum Einstein field equation (without a cosmological constant). Among other things, he proved a short-time existence theorem for solutions to this equation. It is the purpose of the paper under review to generalise List's results by allowing for a negative cosmological constant. This requires introducing a modified flow equation. For this modified flow equation, the authors are again able to prove a short-time existence theorem. Their results hold for the case that the underlying spatial manifold is non-compact and that the metrics satisfy certain asymptotic conditions.
