A lattice \(L\) is \textit{n-distributive} (where \(n\) is a positive integer) if it satisfies the identity \(x\wedge\bigvee(y_i: 0\leq i\leq n)=\bigvee((x\wedge \bigvee(y_j: 0\leq j\leq n, i\neq j): 0\leq j\leq n).\) In addition, \(p\in L\) is a \textit{point} of \(L\) if \(p\) is completely join-irreducible. \(L\) is \textit{spatial} if every \(a\in L\) is a join of some points. \textit{C. Herrmann} et al. [Algebra Univers. 31, No. 3, 365--396 (1994; Zbl 0816.06008)] proved that every modular lattice can be embedded, within its variety, into an algebraic and spatial lattice. The authors of the paper under review extend this result to \(n\)-distributive lattices. Moreover, they show that the word problem for \(n\)-distributive lattices is decidable, thus solving two problems of \textit{A. P. Huhn} [Acta Sci. Math. 48, 215--219 (1985; Zbl 0592.06006)]. In addition, the authors construct a lattice that cannot be embedded, within its variety, into any algebraic and spatial lattice.
