This article is written in the context of algebraic quantum field theory where the physics is encoded in the algebra of observables. Each bounded region of Minkowski spacetime corresponds to some \(C^*\)-algebra satisfying the Haag-Kastler axioms. The motivation for writing the present article was the attempt to understand quantum gauge theories in a way that is model independent. A net of \(C^*\)-algebras is constructed for any spacetime manifold. It seems enough to restrict to a family \(K\) of regions encoding the symmetries. The net of observables is then a functor from the poset \(K\) to the category of \(C^*\)-algebras. A geometric interpretation of certain representations of this net is provided in terms of connections of \(K\). For the case of Minkowski spacetime, it is proven that there exist Poincaré group representations satisfying the spectrum condition.
