This paper studies a certain family of (singular) determinantal quintics in \(\mathbb P^4\) which not only provide invaluable testing grounds for mirror symmetry but also are interesting from the viewpoint of classical projective geometry. Smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds with a two-dimensional complex moduli space are obtained by taking crepant resolutions of the singularities. It turns out that these Calabi-Yau threefolds are mirror to the complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds which appeared in the authors' previous study of Reye congruences in dimension three. The authors compactify the family and determine its monodromy properties by numerically calculating analytic continuations of solutions to the Picard-Fuchs system. This paper also provides an example of a one parameter family of Calabi-Yau threefolds with two points of maximal unipotent monodromy which correspond to non-birational mirror manifolds.
