The authors obtain sharp estimates for the sup-norm of polynomials of degree \(n\) on the closed unit bidisc \(\Delta^2\subset\mathbb C^2\) in terms of their sup-norm on \(K=\{(e^z,e^{\alpha z}): |z|<1\}\subset\mathbb C^2\). Here \(\alpha\) is an irrational number in the interval \((0,1)\). The authors prove that, except for \(\alpha\) from a certain subset \(\mathcal S\) of the Liouville numbers, \(\sup_P||P||_{\Delta^2}\leq \text{exp}(Cn^2\log n)\), and that the order of growth is bigger for \(\alpha\in \mathcal S\). They give a precise characterization of the set \(\mathcal S\) and study its properties.
