The paper under review addresses the question of describing the automorphism group of the vertex operator algebra \(V_L^+\), which is the fixed-point subspace of the lattice vertex operator algebra \(V_L\) associated with a positive-definite even lattice \(L\) with respect to an automorphism \(\theta\) induced from the \((-1)\) isometry of \(L\). Obviously, \(\Aut(V_L^+)\) has a subgroup \(H_L\), obtained as the restriction of the centralizer of \(\theta\). It was known that sometimes \(\Aut(V_L^+)=H_L\) and sometimes not, so the natural question is: When does \(V_L^+\) have automorphisms, which do not belong to \(H_L\)? The main result of the paper gives a uniform method of determining \(\Aut(V_L^+)\) for an even lattice \(L\) without roots. The author shows that for such lattice \(V_L^+\) has extra automorphisms if and only if \(L\) is obtained from a binary code by some explicitly described construction. As an application the author determines \(\Aut(V_L^+)\) in the case when \(L\) is isomorphic to an even unimodular lattice without roots, \(\sqrt{2}R\) for an irreducible root lattice \(R\), or the Barnes-Wall lattice of rank \(16\).
