The paper is devoted to the study of nonlinear stochastic Schrödinger equations (NSSEs) that describe open quantum systems under the Born-Markov approximation. They arise from the unraveling of quantum master equations. This class of stochastic evolutions equations provides characterizations of both continuous quantum measurement processes and the evolution of quantum systems. The first result shows the existence and uniqueness of regular solutions to NSSEs under a non-explosion condition on the coefficients using the method of drift transformation. Then the authors provide two general criteria for the existence of regular invariant measures for NSSEs. Finally the results are applied to a forced and damped quantum oscillator. The precise equation is the following stochastic differential equation with operators \(L_k\) and \(G\) driven by real valued Brownian motions \(W_k\) such that the solution \(X(t)\) lies on the unit sphere in a suitable complex Hilbert space. \[ \begin{multlined} dX = \sum_{k=1}^\infty (L_k X - Re \langle X,L_kX\rangle X) dW^k + GX dt \\+ \sum_{k=1}^\infty \Big(Re \langle X,L_kX\rangle L_kX -\tfrac12 Re^2 \langle X,L_kX \rangle X\Big) dt.\end{multlined} \]
