It is a central problem in the Arakelov theory of arithmetic surfaces to relate the Arakelov-Green function \(G\) and Faltings' delta-invariant \(\delta\) to more accessible invariants or data of the surface. In this paper new invariants \(S\) and \(T\) are defined for any compact Riemann surface \(X\) (Definitions 2.2 and 4.2), each as the norm of some canonical isomorphism between line bundles. In Theorem 2.4 the Arakelov-Green function \(G\) is expressed by \(S\) and the Weierstrass points of \(X\), and Theorem 4.4 expresses Faltings' delta-invariant \(\delta\) by \(S\) and \(T\). An application to intersection theory and a numerical example for a hyperelliptic curve over \(\mathbb Q\) conclude this paper.
