The author investigates an indefinite multidimensional truncated moment problem. Specifically, giving a real-valued truncated multisequence \(s=(s_\gamma)_{0\le|\gamma|\le m}\), with \(\gamma\in\mathbb{N}_0^d\), he tries to find necessary and sufficient conditions on \(s\), insuring the existence of a signed Borel measure \(\mu\) on \(\mathbb{R}^d\) with minimal cardinality of its support, having convergent moments such that \(s_\gamma=\int_{\mathbb{R}^d}x^\gamma \,d\mu(x)\), with the standard notation for multisequences. Using the existence of a rank preserving extension of a multivariate Hankel matrix associated to \(s\) such that the corresponding associated polynomial ideal is real radical, the author gives necessary and sufficient conditions for such a truncated multisequence to have a signed representing measure with minimal cardinality of its support. In fact, the author deals with a more general case, obtaining results for truncated multisequences with a minimal complex representing measure, whose support is symmetric with respect to complex conjugation. As is well known, positive semidefinite truncated multisequences need not have a positive representing measure, which is a legitimate motivation to look for signed Borel representing measures. In addition, computing a signed representing measure \(\mu\) having a Jordan decomposition \(\mu=\mu_+-\mu_-\) with \(\operatorname{card}\mu_-\) small, is also possible via the main result of the paper, which is illustrated by some concrete examples. The author also quotes some previous contributions of several authors concerning the existence of signed representing measure, specifying that ``the problem of obtaining condition(s) for the existence of a minimal representing measure for a multidimensional truncated multisequence seems to have been left open for quite some time.''
