It is well known that a minimal surface \(S\) of general type may have only a finite group of automorphisms. With the additional hypothesis \(K^ 2\geq 140\) \((K\) canonical divisor) the author shows that an abelian group of automorphisms of \(S\) has order \(\leq 52 K^ 2+32\).
