The authors study the mixed initial boundary value problem for conservation laws \[ u_ t+f(u)_ x=0,\quad x>0, t>0 \leqno (1) \] with initial condition \[ u(x,0)=u_ 0(x) \leqno (2) \] and (3) boundary condition in the sense of \textit{C. Bardos}, \textit{A. Y. Leroux} and \textit{J. C. Nedelec} [e.g.: Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 4, 1017-1034 (1979; Zbl 0418.35024)]. In (1), \(f(u)\) is strictly convex. Hence by \textit{Ph. Le Floch} [e.g.: Math. Methods Appl. Sci. 10, No. 3, 265-287 (1988; Zbl 0679.35065); IMA Vol. Math. Appl. 27, 126-138 (1990; Zbl 0727.35083)] the boundary condition (3) may be simplified. By applying ideas of Lax, Conway, Hopf and making sharp constructions, they obtain an explicit formula for the solution of problem (1)--(3). This solution satisfies the entropy condition \[ u(x-0,t)\geq u(x+0,t),\quad x>0, t>0. \]
