    Exact formulas for the coefficients of modular (or, more generally, automorphic) forms of nonpositive weight (nonnegative dimension) are by now well understood and familiar. The best known method to obtain these formulas is the Hardy-Ramanujan circle method, as perfected by \textit{H. Rademacher} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 43, 241--254 (1937; Zbl 0017.05503); Am. J. Math. 60, 501--512 (1938; Zbl 0018.24601)] and \textit{H. Rademacher} and \textit{H. S. Zuckerman} [Ann. Math. (2) 39, 433--462 (1938; Zbl 0019.02201)]. Another approach is that of \textit{H. Petersson} [Sitzungsber. Heidelb. Akad. Wiss., Math.-Naturw. Kl. 1950, No. 8, 417--494 (1950; Zbl 0041.41602)]. The main result (Theorem 1) of the present article is the derivation of similar exact formulas for the coefficients of functions, holomorphic in the upper half-plane, which are not necessarily modular forms, but otherwise suitably restricted. The author applies this result to a number of interesting and important examples of restricted partition coefficients and related number-theoretic functions.
