    The authors consider \(k\)-set- and \(k\)-ball-contractions \(T\) in \(L_ p(\Omega)\) \((1\leq p<\infty)\). Denote by \(\beta(T)\) [resp. \(\sigma(T)\)]\ the ball [resp. set]\ measure of noncompactness of \(T\), and let \[ \gamma=2^{| p-2|/p}, \delta=2^{\max\{1/p, (p-1)/p\}}. \] It is shown that \(\beta(T)\leq \gamma\sigma(T)\) and \(\sigma(T)\leq \delta\beta(T)\), and these constants are the best possible.
