Given a pair of positive operators \(A\) and \(B\) on a complex Hilbert space \(H\), the parallel sum \(A:B\) of \(A\) and \(B\) is defined as \[ A:B=\lim_{\varepsilon\downarrow 0}(A+\varepsilon)(A+B+2\varepsilon)^{- 1}(B+\varepsilon)=\lim_{\varepsilon\downarrow 0}(A+\varepsilon): (B+\varepsilon), \] where the limit is taken in strong operator topology. If this net converges in norm, then we say that the pair \((A,B)\) is of class \(UUP\). The author studies the conditions involving the class \(UUP\).
