Let \(X\) be a compact and convex subset of \(\mathbb{R}^ n\) and \(f: X\to X\) any map. Then there exists a point \(x^*\in X\) such that \(\| f(x^*)-x^*\|\) is less than a certain measure of discontinuity of \(f\). The main idea of the proof is to apply the Kakutani fixed point theorem to a multimap \(x-\circ H_ f(x)\) where \(H_ f(x)\) includes all accumulation points of sequences \(\{f(x_ i)\mid x_ i\to x\}\). Applications to artificial neural nets, economic equilibria and to mean value theorems are given.
