Let \(F: \mathbb{R}^2\to\mathbb{R}\) be a solution of the translation equation (1) \(F(z,s+t)=F(F(z,s),t)\). The first (and the simplest) of the author's theorems reads: ``If \(F(z,t)\) is a solution of (1) with \(F(0,t)=0\), \(F(z,0)=z\), for all \(z, t\), if the limit \(\lim_{n\to\infty}nF(z/n,nt)=F(z,t)\) exists for sufficiently small \(| zt|\), and if \(F(z,t)\) is continuous, then \(F(z,t)\) has the representation \(F(z,t)=z F(zt)\), and \(F(s)\) satisfies for small arguments the functional equation \(F(s+t)=F(s) F(tF(s))\). If, moreover, \(F(s)\) is differentiable, then it has the form \(F(s)=1/(1-as)\) with a certain constant \(a\)''. The other theorems deal with the case where the limit condition for \(F(z/n,nt)\) is replaced by one with the accuracy \(o(n^{-2})\) or \(o(n^{-3})\) as \(n\to\infty\). The functions corresponding to that \(F\) above are shown to satisfy more involved functional equations whose differentiable solutions are explicitly given. Explicit examples of the resulting \(F\)'s are supplied, except for the case of a most complicated asymptotic relation. For the case where \(F(z,1)=e^ z-1\), the values of 10th order derivatives of \(F(z,1/2)\) and \(F(z,-1/2)\) at \(z=0\) printed in the author's paper [Z. Angew. Math. Mech. 40, 215--229 (1960; Zbl 0095.10805)] are corrected and new data are given for the derivatives of \(F(z,-1/2)\) of orders 11 to 15 at \(z=0\).
