Let \(R\) denote the path algebra of an extended Dynkin graph over some field. The study of the infinite dimensional modules over such rings has been initiated in a profound article by \textit{C. M. Ringel} [Symp. Math. 23, 321-412 (1979; Zbl 0429.16022)]. Based on Ringel's results and work of his own, the author adds in the present paper some further information on the subject. The first portion is devoted to pure injective modules. Completing a former article [\textit{F. Okoh}, in: Representations of Algebras, Proc. 3rd int. Conf., Puebla/Mex. 1980, Lect. Notes Math. 903, 263-269 (1981); see also the corresponding Zentralblatt review Zbl 0479.16021] the author shows that the pure injective \(R\)-modules can be described by cardinal invariants. These are used to characterize those direct products of finite dimensional modules whose direct summands also are such products. (Note that a product of finite dimensional modules is pure injective and that each pure injective module is a summand of a module of that kind.) In the remaining part of the paper some facts on pure simple modules, i.e. modules without non-trivial pure submodules, are proven.
