A new proof of the following result due to \textit{K. Mahler} [Casopis Pest. Met. Fys. 68, 93-102 (1939; Zbl 0021.10403)] is given: The product of the surface areas of a convex body in the plane and of its polar body is always bigger than that of a triangle. The case of equality is then established.
