Let \(A=A(S_ q^ 2(c,d))\) be the coordinate ring over a field of the characteristic zero, \(k\), of the quantum two sphere \(S_ q^ 2(c,d)\) defined by \textit{P. Podleš} [Lett. Math. Phys. 14, 193-202 (1987; Zbl 0634.46054)]. Following the notational conventions by \textit{M. Noumi} and \textit{K. Mimachi} [Commun. Math. Phys. 128, No. 3, 521-531 (1990; Zbl 0699.33005)], the authors compute in Theorem 2.4 the cyclic homology of the ring \(A\) with the condition \(c+d\neq 0\), for real parameters \(c\) and \(d\). The groups \(\text{HC}_{2n+1}(A)\) vanish whereas \(\text{HC}_ 0(A)\) and \(\text{HC}_{2n}(A)\) are determined by canonical bases \(X\), \(Y\) and \(\zeta\) (scale changed third generator) of \(A\). The paper then determines, when \(k=\mathbb{C}\), the structure of the \(C^*\)-algebra \(C(S_ q^ 2(c,d))\) associated with \(S_ q^ 2(c,d)\). It shows three different features according to the cases \(d>0\), \(d=0\) and \(0<- d=cq^{2n}<c\) (\(n=1,2,\dots\)), among which only in the first case the \(C^*\)-algebra \(C(S_ q^ 2(c,d))\) appears to be nontrivial. The authors finally discuss on the topological \(K\)-theory of the \(C^*\)- algebra \(C(S_ q^ 2(c,d))\) and the diagram of Connes' noncommutative index theory for the quantum two sphere \(S_ q^ 2(c,d)\).
