Polar geometry has been defined (i) by \textit{F. D. Veldkamp} [Nederl. Akad. Wet., Proc. Ser. A 62 (Indag. Math. 21), 512--551 (1959; Zbl 0090.11902), and Algebr. Topol. Foundations Geom., Proc. Colloq. Utrecht, August 1959, 193--198 (1962; Zbl 0108.16401)] and (ii) by \textit{J. Tits} [Buildings of spherical type and finite BN-pairs. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag (1974; Zbl 0295.20047)]. The author now proves the equivalence of these definitions.
