Let \(A\) be a (nonlinear) accretive operator in a Banach space \(E\) with dual \(E^*\), \(J_ r=(I+rA)^{-1}\) its resolvent, and \(J: E\to E^*\) the corresponding duality map. One of the main results of this paper asserts that if \(E\) is a reflexive space, strictly convex with a uniformly differentiable norm, \(A\) is \(m\)-accretive with \(0\in R(A)\) and \(r_ n>0\) are such that \(\sum_{n=0}^ \infty r_ n=+\infty\), if we define \(x_{n+1}=J_{r_ n}x_ n\) for some \(x_ 0\in E\), then there exists \(v\in A^{-1}(0)\) such that \(J(x_ n-v)\) is almost weakly convergent to 0. Some variants and corollaries are given, including some new results for the case of a Hilbert space. This generalizes previous work by several authors, as R. E. Bruck and S. Reich. An application to the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to an evolution equation is also included.
