The author proves some variational identities related to previous results of Pokhozaev (1965) and Pucci and Serrin (1986). Such identities are useful for proving nonexistence theorems for classical solutions of semilinear elliptic problems. In particular it is proved a nonexistence result for the solutions of semilinear BVPs for the biharmonic and for the pluri-harmonic operator in a star-shaped domain. Even specific elliptic systems and eigenvalue problems are considered.
