The paper is concerned with the analysis of an upwind finite-difference scheme for the nonlinear hyperbolic integro-differential equation with integral boundary condition describing the time evolution of the age structure of a population. The discretization step for age, \(h\), and that for time, \(k\), satisfy the relation \(k=rh\), \(0<r\leq 1\). The scheme is analyzed employing the abstract theory of discretizations, based on the notion of stability threshold. Stability and convergence of the method are proved and numerical examples are presented. It is observed that the method has a different numerical behaviour for \(r<1\) and for \(r=1\).
