The formulas of Christoffel and Uvarov for changing the weight of real orthogonal polynomials by polynomial multiplication and division are extended to polynomials orthogonal on the unit circle. The first result stated in Theorem 1 is an extension of a formula of Christoffel and deals with the case when \(g(\theta)\) is a non-negative trigonometric polynomial. A determinant representation for the polynomials orthogonal with respect to \(g(\theta)dv(\theta)\) when \(g(\theta)\) is a quotient of two trigonometric polynomials has been derived in Section 3 of this paper. In Section 4 the authors state the result for the quotient of a non-negative trigonometric polynomial over a positive one. In the last section it is shown how Theorem 1 gives an alternative way of deriving the explicit formula for the polynomials studied by Szegö and generalized by Askey and Hahn.
