The paper considers discrete forms of various absorbing boundary conditions for the two-dimensional wave equation and shows how the method of \textit{S. L. Lindman} [J. Comput. Phys. 18, 66-78 (1975; Zbl 0417.73042)] can be used to obtain conditions of any order. Detailed analysis yields bounds on the Courant number for stability of various discretizations of these conditions up to order six when used in conjuction with the standard seven point discretization of the wave equation.
