Based on a suitable dissection of the Minkowski sum \(P+Q\), the author gives a new formula for the mixed volume of two convex \(d\)-polytopes \(P\) and \(Q\). By this formula one may compute the mixed volume without integration and without real construction of \(P+Q\), once the sizes and normals of the faces of the original polytopes are known. Further it is possible to study this mixed volume with respect to local changes of \(P\) or \(Q\).
