For solving a uniformly elliptic boundary value problem with interface conditions a more efficient approach is proposed in order to especially treat the cases of strong singularities. If the exact solution \(u\) has an interface singularity at a point \(P\), the method of auxiliary conformal mapping is applied with the aim of completely eliminating or at least reducing the order of the singularity first, and then an appropriate triangulation in the neighbourhood of \(P\) in connection with blending type elements leads to a \(p\)-version of the finite element method that yields more accurate solutions in comparison to different approaches with a minimum of computational effort. A result concerning the rate of convergence is presented, and numerical examples show the efficiency and possible difficulties of the method.
