In the framework of this paper, a dynamical system is a self-map of a Euclidean space. First, a fundamental topological finiteness lemma on the complement of all preimages of a set in an \(\omega\)-limit set is established. This yields results on connectedness of attractors and on sensitive dependence of \(\omega\)-limit sets. Applications concern one- dimensional maps, symmetries of attractors as well as their components and of components of preimage complements in the context of equivariant maps, and in particular planar maps with dihedral symmetry.
