The notion of an entangled l.o. was introduced by \textit{U. Avraham} and \textit{S. Shelah} [Isr. J. Math. 38, 161-176 (1981; Zbl 0457.03048)] and generalized to higher cardinals by \textit{S. Todorcevic} [Compos. Math. 55, 295-302 (1985; Zbl 0583.54003)]. It gives a useful method to construct counterexamples for such problems as the productivity of chain conditions, the square bracket partition relation and the existence of a large size monotonic subfunction. The author shows that the maximal size \(\aleph_ 1\)-entangled l.o. is added by generic extension with a single Cohen real. (Its proof can be easily modified for a case of \(\kappa\)- entangled l.o., if \(\kappa\) is regular and \(\text{wCH}(\kappa)\) holds in the ground model.) As a result, the existence of a maximal size \(\aleph_ 1\)-entangled l.o. is shown to be consistent with a weak version of MA.
