The author considers the hyperbolic problem \(\partial u/\partial t+ \partial f/\partial x= h(x,u)\), where \(f= f(u)\) is a convex flux function. He obtains a second order upwind difference scheme for its solution and shows that it is second order accurate. He indicates how the method can be used for shallow water theory and the flow of gas in a narrow duct.
