The case of a geosynchronous, artificial satellite near the critical inclination is investigated, including the effects of the luni-solar perturbations. The total Hamiltonian is formulated to investigate the terrestrial and lunar attraction on the Molniya type of orbits. Some simplifications and assumptions are introduced. The results are presented as surfaces of sections and are confirmed by numerical integrations. The study shows that the harmonics formed by a combination of the satellite longitude of the node and the Moon longitude of the node do not show resonance phenomenon. The mean effects of the Sun an Moon attractions, compared to the terrestrial attractions alone, are an increase in the amplitude of the libration of the inclination and the decrease in the libration period. This paper is one in a series of papers by Delhaise, Henrard, and Morbidelli investigating the Hamiltonian for various artificial satellite orbits.
