We prove that a Riemannian \(n\)-manifold with Ricci curvature \(\geq(n-1)\) and sectional curvature bounded from above, is a sphere provided the first eigenvalue of its Laplacian (resp. its diameter) is sufficiently close to \(n\) (resp. to \(\pi\)).
