    Als ``elementary configuration'' bezeichnen Verff. die Menge und Anordnung einer endlichen Anzahl \(N\) von diskreten Punkten sowie orientierten Hyperebenen und Hypersphären im Euklidischen Raum der Dimension \(n\). Zu je zwei dieser Elemente gibt es eine reelle Maßzahl (Abstand, Winkelcosinus, Längenquadrat gemeinsamer Tangenten), hier definiert als ``Metric'' \(g_{ij} = g_{ji}\) \((1 \leq i < j \leq N)\). Verff. formulieren und beweisen die Bedingungen, die \({1\over 2} N(N - 1)\) reelle Zahlen erfüllen müssen, damit sie eine ``Metric'' für \(N\) \((> n + 1)\) derartige Elemente im \(R_ n\) bilden. Mit dem Beweis wird der Weg zur Realisierung der so bestimmten Konfiguration vorgeführt. Das abschließende Beispiel zum einfachsten Fall (3 Punkte, 1 Kreis in der Ebene) läßt freilich die Mühsal dieses Weges ahnen.
