Let \(G = \text{Spec} k[G]\) be an affine group scheme over a field \(k\). One says that \(G\) is geometrically reductive if, for every \(G\)-invariant element \(V\) in a finite-dimensional representation \(V\) of \(G\), there is a nonconstant homogeneous polynomial function on \(V\) that is \(G\)-invariant and nonzero on \(V\). -- The paper contains two theorems: Theorem 1. Every finite group scheme over a field is geometrically reductive. Theorem 2. An algebraic affine group scheme \(G\) over a perfect field \(k\) is geometrically reductive iff the smooth connected group scheme \(G^ 0_{red}\) is reductive.
