Two clones \(C\) and \(C'\) are equivalent if and only if the category of \(C\)-algebras is equivalent to the category of \(C'\)-algebras. Let \(A\) be a set with a fixed relation \(\rho \), denote by \(\text{Pol}_A \rho\) the clone of all operations on \(A\) preserving \(\rho\). The authors find characterizations of clones \(C'\) that are equivalent to \(\text{Pol}_A \rho\). Maximal clones on a finite set \(A\) have the form \(\text{Pol}_A \rho\) for one of the eight classes of relations \(\rho\) of \textit{I. Rosenberg} [Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser. 18, 329-333 (1969; Zbl 0258.08006)]. The authors give a special characterization of clones \(C'\) that are equivalent to the maximal clones \(\text{Pol}_A \rho\). It is shown that \(C'\) is a maximal clone of the same class.
