Let \(M= G/H\) be a Riemannian homogeneous space diffeomorphic to a sphere such that the sectional curvature is not constant. W. Ziller has proved that \(M= U(n+1)/U(n)\) or \(\text{Sp}(n+1)/\text{Sp}(n)\) or \(\text{Spin}(9)/\text{Spin}(7)\). The set of homogeneous metrics is 3-parametric in the second case and one-parametric in the other cases. The author calculates the extremal curvatures. He improves his result (with V. N. Berestovskiĭ) concerning the first case and gives an exact estimate for the second case if all parameters are equal. The paper also contains a discussion concerning the problem of pinching and radius of injectivity for these manifolds.
