This article considers the robust stabilization problem for a class of uncertain interconnected linear control systems under external perturbation. Under certain controllability conditions, the approach of an LQ optimal regulator is used in order to derive a decentralized output-feedback sliding mode (DOFSM) control approach: Using the LQ optimal control approach, sliding surfaces are constructed on which the subsystems are controlled in an optimal way; then eigenvalue conditions on the system matrices are given under which the constructed controller is shown to be stabilizing by driving the system to the sliding surface in finite time. The application of the controller to a sixth-order interconnected system illustrates the stabilization properties.
