This paper deals with the initial value problem for the system of ordinary differential equations \(y'(t)= f(y(t))\), \(t\geq t_0\), \(y(t_0)= y_0\), with continuous function \(f:\mathbb{R}^q \to\mathbb{R}^q\) and \(y_0\in\mathbb{R}^q\), solved by the Runge-Kutta method. The authors investigate the conditions which guarantee that Runge-Kutta methods preserve the asymptotic values of the system of ordinary differential equations. A complete characterization of strongly-regular Runge-Kutta methods is given which leads to a constructive test for such methods. This test allows us to obtain a set of conditions expressed in terms of coefficients of the method which guarantee strong regularity. These conditions together with order conditions are then used to give a characterization of strongly regular \(s\)-stage Runge-Kutta methods of order \(p=s\) for \(s=2,3\), and 4.
