Let \(F\) be a real or complex Fréchet space. The symmetric projective tensor product, denoted by \(F\widehat\otimes^s_\pi F\), is the closed subspace of the completed projective tensor product of \(F\) with itself \(F\widehat\otimes_\pi F\), spanned by the elements of the form \(x\otimes y-y\otimes x\). If \(F\) is isomorphic to its square, then \(F\otimes_\pi F\) is the space \(P({^2F})\) of 2-homogeneous polynomials, i.e. the space of the restrictions to the diagonal of the symmetric 2-linear forms defined on \(F\times F\). In this note is is proved that this isomorphism can be fail if \(F\) is not stable by studying two kinds of examples: first, for Banach spaces the James spaces \(Jp\) constructed with the \(Cp\)-norm \((p\succ 2)\), and second, for nuclear power spaces of finite or infinite type.
